How to disable directory listing for anonymous account?

#1 Post by psmith2100 » 2022-04-29 18:41

How can the directory listing for the anonymous account be disabled? Previous versions of FileZilla Server supported this ability. I don't want someone to login as anonymous and browse for files to download but rather be able to download a specific file that I have told them exists.

You cannot, anymore, without completely removing access to the resource.

The devs found the old permission system "too complicated", one of the few points where I strongly disagree.

Hello,
I agree to. the old listing disable was very useful.
In my case the FTP is use to store feedback from users. Now everybody can see all feedbacks :(

Even in the old Server, removing List permission from a directory would make it totally unavailable. I't the same as "Disable" does now. But the old Server allowed "write-only" drop directories, that's now no longer possible and a shame.

Does anyone know the last version to have the old directory permissions?

This is the 'newest' I could find with the 'old' directory controls.

Just update. If you don't want user A to see what user B has uploaded, give them separate user accounts with separate directories. It's that simple.

It's about anonymous uploads (incoming directory). You cannot create accounts for random users you don't know.
You just made it impossible to have such a directory where anonymous users can drop files, that have to be curated before being moved to their respective directories. As it is now, Write also enables Read, which is an invitation for depositing Warez or Pr0n files in that directory until the admin notices.
Think outside the box, there are scenarios where exactly such a setup is required. Even UNIX allows you to do it.

The current system is what I call an idiotic simplification, a very sad trend these days. We aren't idiots, don't treat us like idiots.
