Import existing users from v0.9.41 beta to v1.4.1

#1 Post by AndyHooli » 2022-06-21 14:38

Hi,

I'm in the process of replacing an old Server2003 box that runs FileZilla v0.9.41 beta with a Server2019 box that I installed FileZlla v1.4.1 on last week.

I don't seem to be able to find the passwords saved anywhere else for some of the accounts on the old install of FileZilla, so I'd like to migrate the account details between the boxes. So far I've been googling (which lead me here) and found out about the old "FileZilla Server.xml" file, which I've copied to the new box.I then ran "FileZilla-Server-Config-Converter" against it with the arguments <old XML file> <FileZilla service name>. I got no errors but the user accounts don't appear in my new install even after a reboot.

I assume I've gone wrong somewhere as it's such a big jump in versions, but where?

Thanks in advance for advice given.

Where did you save the output of the config converter?

I didn't, there didn't seem to be an option for it.

I'd found a thread on here that said the arguments for the file converter were <old file> <new file> plus a location in appdata/local for where the new file needed to go, but when I put that in as the second argument it rejected it & asked for the service name.

You need to run the config converter under the same user account the server service will run under.

Heh... I'm in the same boat. Migration from a W2K server with an old FZ install to a newer one.

Can you share the link to all the options / instructions for the config migration cli tool?

Thanks!
Keith

Are you by chance working as a curator in a museum? If not, I'm appalled by the notion of a W2K server still in use.

Sorry it was months ago I did it, I've lost the link since then.

I eventually found the username/password details for all the accounts in old documentation & added them manually to the new version. It was only a dozen or so accounts so didn't take as long as I'd wasted trying to automate it.
