Permissions (Finer Grained)

#1 Post by dvdmrrck » 2022-06-26 18:21

Can I check what plans ahead there might be for more fine-grained permissions...
As an example, my own needs would be to have the ability for a user to add items but not change anything once added. This would allow me to provide a generic login to people so that they can drop items in but have no ability to impact each others' items (they are welcome to read them, as they are just plant pictures they want others to see, just not delete/change them). I would myself move the dropped items from where they are dropped into an orderly read-only structure.
Many thanks,
David

So far, they have ignored our feature requests. :(

And yes, dumbing down software is shit.

Thanks :) well I hope something does happen eventually - often features are removed when programmers don't envisage their practical use, even though they may be well-utilised... I would think providing a safe generic drop point would be a fairly frequent usage.
Actually out of curiosity I clicked the connection test link on your signature, and I think the 3rd logo has a broken link.

If the third logo is missing then you either have no IPv6 connection to the Internet, or it is not configured correctly. You will not be able to reach IPv6-only sites (they are quite rare now but will become more common). For the near future, if the first two (Dualstack and IPv4) are working, you won't get problems. In the long term, ask for IPv6 support.

It's more that the failed logo looks like it's actually broken link -

whereas the one in the middle, with just a single number changed, displays ok -

No, the link is NOT broken at all! The third logo can only be reached if your ISP supports IPv6. It is NOT available if you have no (or broken) IPv6 support.

The Dualstack logo URL resolves to both an IPv4 and IPv6 address (49.12.121.47 and 2a01:4f8:242:52d0::2). Can be reached over IPv6-only, IPv4-only and Dualstack-enabled Internet access.
The IPv4-only logo can only be reached by IPv4-only and Dualstack connections, as it resolves only to the IPv4.
The IPv6-only logo can be reached only by pure IPv6-only and Dualstack connections. Yours is IPv4-only, so the link *appears* broken.

This is *intentional* behavior. The logo shall break if you can't reach it.

Aha that makes sense then!
It maybe it could be worded so that it doesn't look like simply a broken link. Currently it displays instead the alt text "FileZilla Logo" as if it had been intending to show one. Maybe it could be worded "IPv6 Failed" - the others would be similar I think...

Maybe the dev will prettify it at some point. But it's already fully functional as a quick check.
