Permissions issue after upgrade from 0.9.60 to 1.6.7

Tried to upgrade to 1.6.7 today, but had to downgrade back to 0.9.60.
The permissions have become too simplified and now break certain use case scenarios.
How do I set this permission scheme in 1.6.7?
