Move Server version 1.6.5 to anew machine

#1 Post by sergiortc » 2023-07-04 01:15

Hi there,
I have a Filezilla server working with several accounts.
The server uses Explicit FTP over TLS and insecure plain FTP.
I need to make a clean install of Windows Server 2022. One Windows Server is ready I will reinstall FileZilla server.
What do I need to do to make sure my filezilla server will have all the accounts and settings in the new Windows installation.
I would really appreciate any help.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

All settings are saved in %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\filezilla-server (usually C:\ProgramData\filezilla-server). Use the latest Server version on the new machine, yours is quite old.

What you cannot transfer is the firewall settings - you need to redo those.

Thank you for your answer.

I understand I need to redo the firewall settings.

I checked the folder C:\ProgramData\filezilla-server and it contains 5 xml files (allowed, disallowed, groups, settings, and users).
It also contains a certificates folder with two subfolders.

What is the procedure I should follow?
1 Backup the current content of the folder C:\ProgramData\filezilla-server.
2 Install the latest FileZilla Server and
3 overwrite the files under C:\ProgramData\filezilla-server with the ones I have now?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I recommend to use the Export configuration and Import configuratation items from the Server menu in the administration interface.

Using the import functionality takes care of properly setting file permissions, which tends to not be done if copying files by hand.

That's the manual way, yes. There's also an easier one, described by @botg, I was not aware of, yet.

Notes to number 3:

-Make sure the server is completely closed, including the service.

-Delete the directory before copying in the one backed up. Otherwise, you might keep unwanted files in the certificates directory.

Thank you botg and boco for youe help.
I´ll use the export configuration/import configuration method and let you know how it goes when done.
I was planning to do it last night but I need to attend other situation and I think I´ll do it by the end of the week.
Have a nice day.
