Autoban not banning IP address after exceeding incorrect login attempt threshold

#1 Post by Snowknight26 » 2023-12-22 02:32

Subject says it all.

Current settings:
Ban IP address after: 5
If they happen within: 0
The ban will last: 86400

Attached is an example log of a single IP with 68 attempts in the log. There were more but this is just a snippet of what was logged.

There's an old topic that had a similar issue but whatever issue they had was supposedly fixed.

Curious if this is another bug or something else.

If they happen within: 0
Basically this disables the functionality. After an unsuccessful login attempt, the server will forget about the failed attempt after 0 seconds, that means immediately.

Ah so the text next to "Ban IP address after" field that states "(0 disables the functionality)" technically applies to any of the 3 fields?

Ban IP address after: Sets the number of unsuccessful attempts until the IP is blocked. 0 disables Autoban.
If they happen within [ ] seconds: Sets the buffer how long unsuccessful attempts are remembered. Setting it to 0 effectively disables Autoban, too, as it cannot remember unsuccessful attempts at all.
ban will last - self-explaining, applies only if a ban can even happen.

What's the functionality when setting "The ban will last" to 0?

Obviously a very short-lived ban.

In the old betas, there was the feature to permanently add auto-banned IPs to the filter lists. That functionality doesn't seem to exist anymore. So, 0 means ban for 0 seconds.
