Importing Users

#1 Post by s00tie » 2005-03-21 13:54

Is there currently (or any future plan to include) a method to import users into FileZilla server?

We are looking at using FileZilla but have already got over 300 accounts setup on our current ftp server. I can get a .csv export from the existing solution but am then unable to import.

I don't really want to have to create 300+ accounts again manually so a .csv import feature for users / password / group memberships etc would be excellent.

Thanks

You can edit the xml file directly and call FileZilla Server.exe with the /reload-config switch. Writing an CVS to XML converter should not be difficult and I think it can be done using XSLT for example.

That would be nice...

It would be GREAT if they do add an import/export user and settings.

Good idea :)

Thanks for the response.

I for one certainly don't posess the knowledge to be able to do this and I'm guessing Im not the only Sys Admin type in that position.

Even a stand alone program that can create a config after reading in a .csv file would be superb.

Wouldn't a feature such as this add value to the application? Allowing much better disaster recovery / migration options?

For this the data is stored in the .xml file. Making backups of it and restoring it is trivial. Editing .xml files is quite easy as well, as there are lots of tools and libraries which can help with that.
csv files on the other hand do not use a hierachical structrue like xml files and there's one problem with them I think: How to store a comma as part of a field in a comma separated list? Cvs files are not standardized enough to be of any use.

Didn't have time to wait for someone to come up with a solution so migrated the accounts the old way.

Im hoping this is a feature you look at as I can't see many having the patience to do what I did :)
