FTP and CNC

#1 Post by smecher » 2008-10-21 20:31

Hello,

I have setup FileZilla server. I have set up a CNC (Computer Numeric Control) machine to access the ftp site to download CNC programs(plain text files). The CNC machine can see the file in the ftp directory but when I try to transfer them to the CNC hard dive I recieve an error "An error occurred on with the data server". I checked the server log but everything seemed to be in order.

I also have another CNC machine that is connect to a different ftp server called Serv-U so I know it works. Is there a setting that I'm missing that will allow me to transfer files?

Thanks

The log is OK. Your CNC client does not even attempt to download anything, according to the log.

Using any unusual characters in filenames (everything other than 7bit US ASCII)? Only a fully UTF8-aware client will work in this case.

No special characters.

I talked to FANUC (CNC controller manufacture) they mentioned something about what mode the machine was in as far as FTP or storage mode.I will have to look into that. From what you told me that the CNC machine was not attempting to download anything my guess would be that its a problem with the CNC machine mode.

I will look into it and keep you posted.

Thanks

Smecher,

Did you ever resolve this issue? I am getting the the same situation on my fanuc and mitsubishi controls. The control will connect to the filezilla server, list the directory of files, but when you try to transfer the file it errors out. The Mits controls tell me the file does not exist even though I have selected it from the directory list. I get the same logs as previously posted. it accepts the username and password. it accepts the list command. but it never receives a retrieve command from the CNC machine.

I am trying to transfer my CNC Machines from an old computer running windows 2k and cimco FTP to a newer windows srv 2012 r2 VM with filezilla.

By all accounts it seems like everything on the FTP side is solid, but I keep getting this error.

any help would be much appreciated.
