It was a joke?
Far too technical for a mere novice, I am afraid.

For what it is worth ... I saw this sort of problem arising years ago and so I got myself a non-gmail(et al) account and that is the one i used here for Filezilla.

Although, I did use my gmail account in the first instance and was surprised, like the 69% of you who so far agree (although that may change when I vote to "disagree").

I have seen boards, which use captcha and what-not to screen the new registrations, when left un-manned (for say a sudden personal emergency) go spam-tastic !

I say - if you are going to be giving away a great product like Filezilla for free and run a free support forum and let people discuss practically anything they want in an adult fashion - then you screen out spammers in anyway you choose !

I mean .. how inconvenient is it for a user to get a new email account that the guys here at FZ do allow.

A few minutes (or even an hour or more) of your time to register an email account somewhere else is better than countless, thankless hours for a forum admin to be deleting spam.

And once you have an alternative account you can use it for other forums thus weakening google's market share;
maybe google(etc) will even try harder to control their own user registration if they see they are getting banned from forums like this on a regular basis.

I am not sure what the actual question in the poll is.
The title of the topic is "Who the hell set up the registry form!?".
This is a question to which nobody can agree or disagree, only answer.

Just read the first post. I think the OP just needed a place to vent.

I think we we should take them out back and shoot them. Seriously - there aren't a lot of options out there unless you get savvy. After 6 tries I finally used a bluehost account that was a total pain because I never use it.

I am not the admin of this forum, only moderator. To be clear, I'm not the one who blacklisted GMail. And I don't hate GMail (I just don't like Google for their practics). GMail was banned by the admin because a large percentage of the board spam originated from there. Two choices: Either we spend our time here banning hundreds of spammers by hand, or we answer posts. I prefer the latter.

Other providers with lots of spam have been banned as well, FYI.

Which providers we do like? Try to use the one from your ISP.
