Filezilla, Windows XP

#1 Post by peterjackson_lh » 2014-07-02 16:13

Sorry to ask a stupid question ... I still run Windows XP and I would like a version of Filezilla; will the latest one work? The download page only mentions Vista and Windows 7.8, which are all more recent.
Thanks, Peter

I checked the basic functionality and so far the latest version is still working on XPSP3 (there are minor issues with drive icons). Three remarks:
1. You won't get any support for XP-specific bugs here.
2. It may stop working anytime.
3. For Win32 OS < Vista, versions after 3.8.0 are not offered through Auto-Update. That is intentional and not a bug.

@boco:
When you said the latest version, did you refer to FileZilla client 3.9.0.2 Final? Could you kindly confirm that the core functionalities of v3.9.0.2 do indeed work correctly on Windows XP SP3 Pro?

I am currently running FileZilla 3.8.0 Final on an old PC to transfer work files with the company I work for. The job is critical to me, so I don't want to get corrupt files by using a new FileZilla version that does not work well with Windows XP SP3. I'd like to upgrade to the latest 3.9.0.2 in order to resolve some explicit FTP over TLS issues I am encountering.

I wish I could get a new PC to run later Windows but my current economic situation does not allow me to do so.

Please advise. Many thanks!

You need to upgrade to a more modern operating system. Windows XP is outdated and insecure and should under no circumstances used in a networked environment nor in an environment with removable periphery.

No.

Last version working on XP and derivatives is 3.9.0.1, last official version was indeed 3.8.0. That's why you won't get auto-updated anymore. Get 3.9.0.1 from https://download.filezilla-project.org/ ... exe?nowrap& - NO SUPPORT.

Thank you both for the advice and clarification.

I tried FileZilla FTP Client 3.9.0.2 before reading your posts. While the installation went to OK, the program failed to load with an error which could be interpreted as OS incompatibility. I didn't try version 3.9.0.1 as bocosuggested and went reinstalled 3.8.0.

The followings may be OT.....After clean uninstalled 3.9.02 and clean installed 3.8.0 I tried to restore Settings which had been created prior to my 3.9.0.2 installation, the restoration of Settings to my clean installed 3.8.0 completely failed - default settings stayed and no changes were made. Is this a known bug of version 3.8.0?

Thanks!

Should be compatible, there were no changes to settings syntax AFAIK.

I tried 3.9.0.1 and before I could download it I got informed by the site that it wouldn't work on XP!

So I've gone looking for 3.8

Please update to the most recent version of FileZilla, we cannot support outdated versions.
