We're doing something similar to auto relaunch the service but it's still very disruptive to file transfers.

Interesting not the same OS and not virtualized.

you work is really appreciated but I guess I have to seriously start evaluation of other products before somebody wants to see filezilla AND my ass gone for good :-P still, fingers crossed for a quick but permanent fix.

Sadly finger crossing won't help.

I'm out of ideas on this one.

Please try this build: https://filezilla-project.org/codesquid ... -debug.exe

Note that all optimization has been disabled, this may cause loss of performance depending on the server's workload.

In addition, please enable the minidump functionality of Windows, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... 85%29.aspx

Create the directory in the registry if needed, set the DumpFolder, set DumpCount to 10 and DumpType to 1.

If it crashes again, there should be a minidump in the dump folder. Please send me that file.

I just wanted to chime in to say that I'm seeing the same crashes with faulting module libeay32.dll. The crashes are readily repeatable and occur every few hours when there is an active transfer from one of my users. This may be a coincidence but I have not been able to replicate the crash from clients running CuteFTP on Windows (despite large transfers of 80 GB and 20 GB), but a user using the Filezilla client on Linux reliably crashes the server a few hours into every transfer. Since this was occurring every few hours with a large active transfer from this Linux user, I switched to a different FTP server (XLight) and the problem has gone away.

I tested with 0.9.46 beta on WHS 2011 (64 bit) running on a Sandybridge Core i3 chip, 8 GB of RAM, and an Asus workstation motherboard. I can provide full system specs later. If needed, I can also install the new build and provide a minidump.

Yes, please try the latest test build.

Can you figure out which version of FileZilla he uses, which distribution and version he uses and whether he's using the FileZilla package from his distribution or the binaries from the FileZilla website?

I can reliably reproduce the crash with your debug build, my Windows 7 x64 host and Debian 7.6 x86 running as a VirtualBox virtual machine. I copy from the server to the client (Debian's Filezilla Client 3.5.3 package, default settings). I've used the unarchived Qt 4.8.6 source files (get the source archive from here).

Here's a minidump

Hmpf, the crash is inside the assembler code again. No call stack available :(

I've reproduced your setup, but so far have been unable to reproduce the crash.

What CPU are you using? What kind of disks are you using to transfer the files from/to? Mono-crystalline silicon or spinning rust?

Also, please try this build: https://filezilla-project.org/codesquid ... debug2.exe

It sets custom locking functions, something which shouldn't be needed in a well-designed library. But I've given up all hope with OpenSSL, the more I learn about it, the less I want to use it :(

It's not 100% reproducible with my setup. But I managed to crash it several times. There are times when it doesn't want to crash.
My PC specs: i3 2120, 8GB DDR3, 2x 1TB 7200rpm no RAID spinning rust. I will try again, with the new build.

In order to maintain the up-time of the server, I had to disable windows error reporting (file zilla would not fully exit until I clicked ok on the error report) so I could then create a task to monitor the event log for filezilla crashes, then the task would immediately launch Filezilla /start command, to get the server back online immediately.

If I enable the minidump will I need to enable the error reporting?
Will it generate any prompts on the screen that must be clicked on, in order for the program to exit--thus preventing the task from relaunching filezilla server?

I do not know.
