Remote site to remote site download

#1 Post by jakoby » 2014-10-03 21:11

I'm setting up a new e-commerce store and need to transfer all of the images from one site to another. Rather than downloading all of the images to my computer via FTP and then uploading to the new site via FTP, is there a way to download directly to the new site?

Thanks
Jakoby

Not in FZ, but what hosting platform do you use?
If you have WordPress, take a look on this:

Or if you have SSH access on both servers, take a look on this:

Thanks for the reply.

The new site is hosted on GoDaddy and I have full access to it. I'm also running Wordpress on the new site.

However, I only have FTP access to all of the images.

You should have a local copy of your entire site - for backup purposes so now would be a good time to download everything.

How do you create your images in the first place?

The images are coming from the manufacturer's FTP. I only have access to these pictures via FTP.

I am currently building a personal e-commerce site to sell the manufacturer's products, hosted through GoDaddy, and have complete access.

I got in touch with the manufacturer to see if we could figure something out but they do not provide any web services or advice.

What is wrong with FTPing them to your local machine and then uploading them?

There are a lot of images and I was hoping to not have to download all of them. The pictures are organized into folders alphabetically by product title. There's a folder for "A", "B", "C", etc. I downloaded the first two letters worth of photos (~20,000 images) and it took quite a bit of time just to download. Once downloaded locally, I'll have to upload them, taking more time. I would just like to streamline this process and I'm open to any and all suggestions.

I understand your problem now but I would still prefer to have local copies of all the images.
I hope that your manufacturer supplies you with a full database ready dataset or the image problem will be the least of your worries.

Filezilla doesn't support site to site transfers (and I hope they never over complicate it by adding that functionality) but there is at least one out there which I have used in the past.

I don't want to mention the name of it but a quick Google search should ID it

From what I know it is planned. CoreFTP or FTP Voyager (now freeware) should be able to do it. We can't link to commercial sites here so just do a web search.

I wasn't sure if I should name the software in question but CoreFTP can do Site to Site transfers but be careful, it is not always clear what is being transferred to where.

The free CoreFTP LE supports only one connection and is not really suited for thousands of files. From what I know, FTP Voyager doesn't have that restriction.

However, if you use the way going through your HDD, you will have a backup, automatically. Could be useful.

Both of those FTP clients are Windows based. I work off of a Mac and have not been successful in finding a suitable client to do the site to site transfer.
