I have been using filezilla for years and years and have never had to do anything special with it.
I am also getting this message now.
I don't have a firewall on my computer. (linux)
I have two computers, both fresh installations, it works on one not the other.
I have made no adjustments to either.
The computer that it doesn't work from I have tested the ftp from the command line - works fine.

It cannot be what the admins say it is and must be something else, surely.

edit:
when run from the command line and trying to connect to my server I get this:

wxD-Bus: Signal from /org/freedesktop/DBus, member NameAcquired
wxD-Bus: Reply with serial 2
wxD-Bus: Signal: Error: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files
wxD-Bus: CPowerManagementInhibitor: Requesting busy
wxD-Bus: Reply with serial 3
wxD-Bus: Reply: Error: The name org.freedesktop.PowerManagement was not provided by any .service files
wxD-Bus: Falling back to org.gnome.SessionManager
wxD-Bus: CPowerManagementInhibitor: Requesting busy
wxD-Bus: Reply with serial 4
wxD-Bus: Reply: Error: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files

not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Could be anything. Please post comparative logs from both the working and the non-working machine.

The output from wxD-Bus is irrelevant to this issue.

This only happens in version 3.10.0.2. I have 4 other computers connnected to the same network with Filezilla version 3.9.0.1 and none of them behaves like this. This problem arouse only after installing this new version. Do NOT download and install version 3.10.0.2

Your server is broken or badly configured. You need to contact your server administrator or server hosting provider for assistance to have the server fixed.

I'm a complete newbie to all of this! Used FZ a lot in the past, but always with all the settings pre set up.

Connected to a friend's server last week, no problem.
Now when I try to connect, I get this message:

Status: Connecting to 213.171.000.0:21...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Status: Insecure server, it does not support FTP over TLS.
Status: Server does not support non-ASCII characters.
Status: Logged in
Status: Retrieving directory listing...
Command: PWD
Response: 257 "/" is your current location
Command: TYPE I
Response: 200 TYPE is now 8-bit binary
Command: PASV
Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (213,171,000,5,000,000)
Command: MLSD
Error: The data connection could not be established: ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server

Any ideas? I'm on a different internet connection now. I work whilst travelling so use public (library) connections a lot. Is this something to do with it? The one it worked off last week was a private connection at a friend's house. Now I'm in a library and it won't work over either the Shaw Open connection or the libraries own. Is there a way to make FZ connect no matter what my internet connection is?

I tried setting the configuration wizard to Get External IP Address from: with the default address in there. This gives me the following in the results:

Connecting to probe.filezilla-project.org
Connection established, waiting for welcome message.
Response: 220 FZ router and firewall tester ready
USER FileZilla
Response: 331 Give any password.
PASS 3.22.1
Response: 230 logged on.
Checking for correct external IP address
Retrieving external IP address from http://ip.filezilla-project.org/ip.php
Checking for correct external IP address
IP 24.244.32.28 ce-cee-dc-ci
Response: 510 Mismatch. Your IP is 24.244.32.20, ce-cee-dc-ca
Wrong external IP address
Connection closed

Thanks guys :)

That's an invalid response. Please contact your server administrator or server hosting provider for assistance to have the server fixed.

Other people can connect so it doesn't seem to be an issue on the server end, just with me, even though it's saying it's the server. ??!

FZ is now connecting me to the server, but then won't let me go into any of the first level of files (there's several different websites in the server, each in their own file that shows up as soon as you connect to it.)

When I try to connect to one,I get this message:

Status: Disconnected from server
Status: Connecting to 213.171.000.5:21...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Status: Insecure server, it does not support FTP over TLS.
Status: Server does not support non-ASCII characters.
Status: Logged in

Command: CWD /tangent-expeditions.co.uk>
Response: 250 OK. Current directory is /website.co.uk>
Command: TYPE I
Response: 200 TYPE is now 8-bit binary
Command: PASV
Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (213,171,000,5,22,119)
Command: MLSD
Error: The data connection could not be established: ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server
Error: Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

In my case I have to allow the Filezilla application in 'application privilege control' in Kaspersky when I get this error.
Other AV's may be the same where you have to specify to your AV to ignore Filezilla.

Hi-

If you have had FileZilla working well in the past and you're getting an error message from FZ saying 'Server sent passive reply with unroutable address. Using server address instead', especially after having not used it for a while (aka upgrade issues), you might consider the following instead of fooling around with Windows Firewall (which, for me, was a wild goose chase!):

In the past, all that I've ever needed to do was forward the active (default) port of 21 to my LAN address of my ftp server. And this method of operation continues to work for a lot of ftp clients on my network... but, at some point along the upgrading of FileZilla, the software now requires that you forward the passive port range to the ftp server as well (someone who knows more about the software might disagree with this comment, but that has been my experience). My research indicates that some ftp servers do not specify a passive port range, but mine does, so once I forwarded that passive port range properly (in my router) to the local ip address of my ftp server, FileZilla has worked perfectly. If you're like me and have only typically forwarded a single port, add a port forwarding line for the passive range too. Carefully check to make sure that you are forwarding the entire passive range just as your router wants it entered because I was initially doing it incorrectly. Also, I don't have enough experience with a lot of servers to know if the passive range is always called out (in the settings), but I did read that the client has no control over the passive range, so if you can't set the server's passive port range or if you don't know it, and therefore cannot forward that range specifically, apparently you'll need to forward all (?) ports to it- though I'm pretty sure that would not work for me, so I'd be careful doing that.

Anyway, hope this helps some- good luck!
