SFTP difference between 2.2.32 and 3.0rc1

#1 Post by rps63ifid » 2007-08-20 16:26

We've been using the 3.0 betas, etc., since their initial release with very few issues until recently. Our server admins are switching over to SFTP and completely disabling FTP, so we tried connecting via SFTP and bumped into what appears to be a problem with 3.0 that doesn't seem to be present in the older versions (or maybe just a difference). When we connect via SFTP in the 3.0rc1, we can't see any subdirectories. If I change directories into a subdirectory that I know exists and that I know has files and subdirectories, I see none of those.

I uninstalled 3.0rc1, and re-installed 2.2.32 -- works great, and shows me everything I would expect to see.

Here is the debug-level log from 2.2.32:

(The only thing I have done to those logs is to change my username to "user", the server name to "host.domain", and replaced the server IP in the 3.0rc1 log file with "0.0.0.0" -- other than that they are verbatim in showing the connection to the server and the change to a subdirectory called "fast" that I know exists and that 2.2.32 lists without problems).

Any ideas what's amiss with 3.0rc1 talking to this server?

Thanks for any help or insight any of you might offer...

Your server uses a very exotic listing format. I'll try to add it to the directorylisting parser of FZ3.

@botg: Thanks for the quick response. At the risk of exposing even more of my ignorance, could I read this as indicating that there were things in the 2.2.x series that have gotten deferred or left unimplemented during the development of 3?

As a potentially interesting aside, I use Cyberduck on my Mac boxes, and I have a similar issue there (the latest official release works, the most recent beta behaves the same way as FileZilla 3).

If there is anything more you need from me on this, or something else you want me to test, please don't hesitate to ping me...

Actually the listing format isn't the problem. On second look it appears that the server doesn't send any listing at all.

FileZilla's SFTP support is based upon PuTTY. Please try the most recent psftp build from PuTTY (http://www.tartarus.org/~simon/putty-sn ... /psftp.exe) with your server. If it fails as well, it's not an issue with FileZilla and you'll have to contact the PuTTY developers instead.

@botg: I'm not sure what you're asking me to do. Is the psftp.exe file to which you refer something that gets installed on the server? If so, that may be problematic as that box (and its configuration) is completely out of my control. About all I can do in this case is ask the admins.

Can you shed some light on why FZ2.x works, but not FZ3?

No, you need to test it on the same system you're running FileZilla on. psftp doesn't need to be installed.

OK, here's what happens:

Code: Select all

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Desktop>.\psftp.exe user@host.domain

Using username "user".

Okay, now we know that it isn't a problem with PuTTY but with FileZilla instead.
What I need now is the raw output of fzsftp

Start fzsftp using this command: (Replace username and host with your's)

Code: Select all

fzsftp.exe -v username@example.com
Then after connecting, enter these commands:

Code: Select all

-1-
-0-
password
ls
(Substitute password with your password)

Would it be possible to get a temporary guest account on that server?

Unfortunately, no. That's completely out of my hands. It's a box that I have no control over and it would be more than just getting a guest account since it is configured to only accept connections from specific IPs, too...

Just to clarify, do you have "Show raw directory listing" enabled in FileZilla 3?
