FileZilla Client 3.13.1, Pin to Task Bar got double icons in Windows 10

#1 Post by yagmai » 2015-08-31 02:34

I downloaded and installed the newest version of FileZilla, v3.13.1.

In my Windows 10 retail, I try to pin FileZilla to taskbar, which succeed.
But when click the FileZilla icon on taskbar, a double icon showed in the taskbar.

This issue was found in the first preview of Windows 10.
Want to know whether this issue was fixed or not.

And also, if there is a solution, please let me know.

Thanks.

I can't reproduce this, so whatever the problem was in the preview of Windows 10 it must have been fixed.

Do you use an utility like 7+ Taskbar Tweaker? Looks like there is a problem with AppIDs on your system.

I do see this same problem in a clean install of Windows 10 Pro 64bit. A fresh format install from download media following an upgrade. Several applications re-installed but no tweaks or user interface modifications as yet.

Without pinning, the Filezilla icon behaves as expected, it exists on the taskbar with a title and active highlight bar, after starting the application.

When pinning the program to the taskbar I then see an extra phantom Filezilla icon, with no title or active flash as well as the active icon.

Closing all running instances leaves the one inactive icon on the taskbar, clicking this gives an active instance with title again, but there is always the extra phantom icon unless you unpin the program again.

I can start multiple instances, but there are always n+1 icons.

Hope that helps...

Not reproducible here. I need precise instructions how to reproduce this, down to each mouse click starting with a fresh Windows installation where nothing is installed yet.

OK, I will have another system to upgrade late next week, will try Filezilla as the FIRST application out of the starting gate and let you know what transpires.

I just happened upon this thread researching the problem when it happened to me, and updated it to say it has occurred at least once on a release version of Win10.

In the mean time I can't think of anything particularly special about my set-up, multiple screens (3) is a possibility as Win10 does maintain independent task-bars for each.

Phil.

Sorry for the long delay in providing feedback, the spare system was needed longer than expected. The bad news from my perspective is that I can reproduce this on a vanilla clean W10 Pro install, the good news from your perspective is that it's definitely a Windows issue not a Filezilla one.

It turns out that any 3rd party 64 bit application (installed in 'Program Files') that is run and pinned, exhibits this problem, on 2 different machines here. 32 bit application (installed in 'Program Files (x86)' do not exhibit the problem, and oddly neither does 64 bit IE.

Interesting, though still not reproducible for me.

How exactly do you perform the action of pinning?

In my case, run the application, either from a shortcut or directly out of explorer, an 'active' program icon appears in the taskbar. Then right click on that taskbar icon and select 'Pin this program to taskbar'. For 32 bit apps the 'active' taskbar icon remains, but will persist in the taskbar after the app is closed. For 64 bit apps the inactive 'persistent' icon appears immediately in addition to the active icon, and for apps that permit it (e.g. Filezilla) the 'persistent' icon will launch new instances with their own 'active' icons.

This state seems to exist starting/restarting the apps by any means, and for both admin and normal users. The hardware and video setup is different for my 2 boxes, so I can only suspect the install media which was created from the Win 10 upgrade page about 3 weeks after launch, next step is to download and build a more recent Win 10 ISO and try again.

Hi,
I've got the same issue under Windows 10 and the latest version of FileZilla, 3.14.1.
For information, I didn't launch the classic install with the exe file, just extracted the zip file into D:\Tools\FileZilla folder.

You can't directly pin executables to taskbar. Doing so does not set the AppUserModelID on the shortcuts property store.
