Auto Update for file changes

#1 Post by vollertsen » 2016-02-23 16:47

I would like to see an option that would allow auto updates of file changes on my PC. Right now I have to approve every change before it's uploaded from my pc to the server. This would be a time saver.

This has already been discussed to death. Auto-uploading of changed files will never come, as FileZilla cannot detect when the external editor has really finished saving the file.

FileZilla can detect when a file changes! How do I know? Because when I click on FZ after editing a file it asks me if I want to upload it!

I'd be happy if there was a check box which allowed me to automatically upload when FZ gains focus and a file has been changed.

It can detect whether a file has changed, it cannot detect when it is safe to upload the file. Uploading a file at the wrong time can lead to data corruption on _both_ the local and remote copy.

What about WinSCP: Another competitor who has no problem to auto update a file when it is save locally.

Why WinSCP can do that's Filezilla can not? Sory, but I steel don't understand.

In case WinSCP is using external Editors: No, it can't. It is taking chances. Eventually there will be corruption, when WinSCP uploads an incomplete file because the Editor is not done saving it, yet.

When WinSCP upload an incomplete file, it say it is "incomplete". How He did that ? I don't know. .html, .css, .js or .php files are not very long to save or to upload. So I just imagine after uplaod it's not so hard to compare de original file with a cache version to determine if they still identical.

Only if it knows the file is incomplete. Doesn't apply in this case, where it would take the truncated stub from the Editor as source.

Thanks for this comment. Hopefully FileZilla will add this feature in the future. For now, Cyberduck. :P
