Can't connect to server

#1 Post by timmy5000 » 2014-04-13 03:26

I've been facing problems with filezilla for few days now for some reason. I have hired some systems admins for my VPS from my host provider and they seem to be able to login to filezilla but I am unable to for some reason. My webhost told me that I should contact my internet provider to see if they are blocking any ports and they even provided me some ports to start with and my internet provider said that they don't block any ports. I also don't have firewall activated neither use any anti-virus so I don't know why I can connect to my server via filezilla even though it works perfectly fine on winscp.

Here is the log:
http://pastebin.com/b0pi0kfG

Everything is colored green except for the last two lines (The error lines which is red).

When I run a test on ftptest.net, this is what I get for the log:
http://pastebin.com/HTfi5v0K

After that log is displayed, I am sent back to the original front page on ftptest.net and it shows the following for the error:

Error: Connection timed out

Timeouts are usually caused by some router and/or firewall that is interrupting the connection.
Try uninstalling all firewalls and plug your computer directly into your modem, thus bypassing the router.

But my firewall is disabled and my internet provider said that there aren't any ports being blocked.

Can someone please help me? My system admins can login but I can't :(

Failure to receive the PASV reply means that the server is behind a badly configured firewall or NAT router, where said firewall or NAT router is furthermore actively interfering with the connection.

Contact your server administrator or server hosting provider for assistance. The problem is on their end.

well when can we realistically see Upload/Download speeds of > 1 MB using Filezilla?
Well, when your bandwidth is high enough, I guess. For an upload of 1 MegaByte/s you need to have a guaranteed upload rate of at least 8 Megabits/s. Overhead and congestion add to this value, so well...

I get that same rejection notification on my Dell desktop, with a Netgear R6300v2 router. But my ASUS laptop connects perfectly through the same router. Scratching my head.

I am having a similar problem. I set up the server on my desktop, which is wired to a wireless signal extender. And my laptop is connected to the main router. I can connect using the desktop but not the laptop. no idea why it will not work...

-Try with Win firewall disabled.
-Search for other firewalls/port blockers. Security suites and Antivirus programs (usually paid ones) are prime suspects.
-If you do SFTP, fzsftp.exe needs to be allowed, too.

Well, my answer is not for exactly this question, but might be helpful in like that cases... From last updates of FileZilla you can't connect to server simply and in this tutorial you can check how to do dial with that kind of problem. That's might be helpful for "Connection timed out" case:

Hi
For solving the problem of connecting to servers using FileZilla go to windows firewall=> allowed programs=> allow another program and then add FileZilla from where you install it in your computer.
This solved my problem :)
Good Luck.

Your SOCKS5 proxy server denies connection, for some reason. If you can, try a direct connection.

Doesn't look like a server-side bug to me. Look at the reply to the AUTH command, that looks like a malicious firewall has injected a fake response code.

Command : AUTH TLS
Response : 502 AUTH TLS OK.
Must have been blind, didn't see the 502 response code.

Yes, in this case something in between injects false response codes, in order to make FTP over TLS fail, in the hope that client and server fall back to plain FTP (which exposes any traffic to the monster-in-the-middle (MITM)). Such behavior is very malware-like and downright criminal ("Downgrade attack").
FileZilla does never fall back to a lower security or even none at all, thus you are safe from that type of attack.

Find the responsible software or device, and correct that behavior. If it can't be corrected, get rid of it.
