How to change config location on a Mac?

#1 Post by douglasmccarroll » 2018-06-15 13:20

Hi,

I'd like to change the location where FileZilla stores the FileZilla.xml file on my Mac.

I've researched this forum and have found posts on changing this location, but they all seem to be talking about how to do this on Windows.

Some posts mention fzdefaults.xml and fzdefaults.xml.example files, but I can't find either of these files on my Mac. They also mention a FileZilla program directory, but there is no folder with this name on my Mac.

Does anyone know how to do this on a Mac?

Thanks,

Douglas

The example file is inside the application bundle.

Thanks botg.

I've made a copy of /Applications/Mozilla/Contents/docs/fzdefaults.xml.example, renamed it as fzdefaults.xml, and put it into /Applications/Mozilla/Contents/SharedSupport, as specified in the file's comments.

My goal is to change the 'save location' for the config file, but first I want to do a test to determine whether FileZilla is seeing the fzdefaults.xml file, so I've edited the file and set "Disable update check" to 1.

When I run FileZilla it informs me that a new version is available, so I assume that, in fact, it isn't seeing the new fzdefaults.xml file.

Does anyone have any thoughts on why this might be happening?

There’s a difference between checking for updates and displaying known updates.

Yes - thanks! - everything is working now.

One note for anyone reading this in the future: It doesn't work to use "~" (a tilde) in the settings path - instead use "/Users/your_user_name/".
