In the ideal world, perhaps. More often than not system updates are the long term plan, sometimes people need a quick answer to fix a problem for the short term.It is always feasible. What isn't feasible is running outdated, potentially vulnerable software with known bugs.
I agree that the true 'FIX' here is to update the application, happy to discuss this further (privately) but I fear the politics are invading the thread, I hope you understand.
