Portable FileZilla Server? (run off a USB)

#1 Post by rmccue » 2006-03-25 05:24

I am a member of Portable Apps which is John Haller's website, who you might remember created Portable FileZilla (CritterNYC).
I would like to do the same sort of thing, but don't want to make a service for the server.
How would I go about doing this?

It's possible to start the service directly without a service using the /compat parameter.

Add two shortcuts with "FileZilla Server.exe" /compat /start and "FileZilla Server.exe" /compat /stop

For all, that don't like normal batch files, here are 2 starters:
-------------
Instructions:
-------------

- Install FileZilla Server
- Copy all Data from the installdirectory into your prefered folder on your portable drive / backup drive
except the uninstaller
- Uninstall FileZilla Server
- Extract the 2 files (Server_start.exe and Server_stop.exe) into the prefered folder

If you want to run the server, execute Server_start.exe
If you want to stop the server, execute Server_stop.exe

You also can drag it into the autostart folder, if you want the server be automatically started, if you log on.

All files are virus, spy & malwarefree.
Checked with ESET NOD32 2.70.

This options are not longer supported since recode? (because I get error if I try)

Somewhere you did write that filezilla has been rewritten and not all features are in the new version yet.

I made a .bat inside the Filezilla Server.exe with the content:
start "Filezilla server.exe" /start
pause

and it says not - "unkown option /start".

Only the client has been rewritten.

I know this topic is too old, but for anyone who read this, the right syntax is with "-" instead of "/":

"FileZilla server.exe" -compat -start

The launcher isn't from the FileZilla project. And the author who made it has not visited since 2007-08-12. You can try to contact him, good luck.
