access FTP Server from Internet

It looks like I can get in with Android browsers using ftp://example.com

but can't get in with any windows browsers from outside local network using same command.

Any thoughts?

Plus, browsers are lousy FTP clients. They only support non-encrypted FTP (not recommended), and are not configurable in this regard.

Note that browser vendors are currently in the process of phasing out (removing) FTP support completely.
