I'm trying to set up an FTP server on a tower and an FTP client on my laptop and failing miserably. I do not wish to access this data outside of my home network. I would like it to be self-contained. All instructions I've found online are geared toward a traditional FTP server that you access outside of your network.
I tried searching for what I'm looking for, but I'm afraid I'm not using the correct search terms on search engines and on the forum. Not asking anyone to hold my hands, just please show me some instructions and documentation so I can study on my own.

Re: Home Setup
Nevermind, I read the wiki and realized I hadn't set a Home Directory and was able to connect successfully. Though I haven't tested transferring files yet. Fingers crossed.

Re: Home Setup
And that would be a success, files are transferring and completing successfully.
Re: Home Setup
For in-LAN access (not crossing any network segments), you can skip all that router hubbub. Just the software firewalls have to be adjusted. I'd recommend enabling FTP over TLS also for pure LAN usage, not only is it more secure, but also more resistant against transfer errors.
You can safely ignore the red NAT warning, in your case.

Thanks, I just found some documentation covering FTP over TLS. I'll look over that and see if I can implement that tonight.boco wrote: ↑2019-10-04 07:21For in-LAN access (not crossing any network segments), you can skip all that router hubbub. Is FTPS what you're referring to when you say "FTP over TLS"?mdoverl wrote: ↑2019-10-04 20:05Thanks, I just found some documentation covering FTP over TLS. I would post a link to Wikipedia, but I'm not sure if that's allowed.
Re: Home Setup
FTPS = FTP over TLS. The former just being an abbreviation of the latter.
There are two ways of doing FTPS, though. Explicit and Implicit. We do strongly recommend using Explicit.
