Filezilla freezes whenever it tries to upload a file back to server

#1 Post by biggie » 2019-10-15 11:40

Hi, I just updated to macOS Catalina yesterday and since then FIleZilla (3.45.1) keeps freezing for around 5-10s whenever it tries to upload a file, that I was editing (I use Visual Code Studio), back to the server.
By freezing I mean that FileZilla complettely freezes, I can't click anywhere on it and the mouse icon turns to the loading mouse icon for at least 5s whenever I press Yes on the "Upload this file back to the server" after I edited & saved the file on my editor.

I've never had this issue anytime before. I already tried uninstalling & installing FileZilla multiple times nothing helped. It only occurs when it tries to upload a file that's just been edited. There aren't any errors shown in the log console.

I tried different FTP Clients like CiberDuck ForkLift and had no issues there.

Does anynone have had any issue since updating to macOS Catalina (I do know that it doesn't support 32bit anymore), or may have an idea where this issue might come from ?
Thanks

We are having the same issue as well after the upgrade to Catalina.

Any ideas on fixes?

I attempted to grant full filesystem access to filezilla in settings to see if that made a difference, but to no avail.

10 days later and I still have not found a solution to this problem. I've tried to change some FileZilla settings, I completely uninstalled FZ + its confg folder and installed a fresh version and nothing helps. I also gave full permission to FileZilla.

I still managed to found some little tweaks that helps a bit. For example if I edit at least 2 files at the same time, it will prompt a confirmation dialog for each file. Now if I press Yes for all of them it will directly upload all files without freezing EXCEPT for the last one. After the last dialog window it will allways freeze for some time.

Uploading files directly (drag & drop) doesn't prompt any freeze.

The freeze only occurs when I click Yes or No on that particular confirmation dialog whenever I try to edit a file with an editor. Clicking on the "close window" button of the dialog will not prompt a freeze.

I tried many other FTP Clients and they all worked fine, so it probably has to be some sort of problem with FileZilla and MacOS Catalina.

I hope these clarifications will help in finding a solution.

Mac OS X 10.15 and FileZilla 3.45

Same here. It freezes 5 seconds when uploading edited file. Before macOS X update it was all right.

Do you still experience this on macOS 10.15.1?

Yes this new macOS update didn't fixed anything.

But I somehow found a solution. For some reason I needed to create a new user and I found out by chance that FileZilla was working fine again on this new user account, but after 4-5 hours it started to freeze again. And on the main user account it still freezes though.

So I decided to create a new account and FileZilla has been working fine for the last 2 days, so here I am hoping that it will not freeze on this account...

Just wanted to chime in and say that I am also having this problem since updating to Catalina. It's majorly impacting my workflow. Checking for updates every day.

Yes it's still freezing. Since Catalina, many apps are asking for a ton of permissions such as access to "Downloads" folder, or screen recording permissions, etc... Perhaps that could possibly be the problem?

It is a bug in macOS, they have changed something about how event loops, timers and controls interact.

Got prompted by FileZilla to update to the latest stable version of FileZilla Client 3.46.0
After that, the FileZilla FTP show was over on my macOS Catalina 10.15.1 unless, i manually transfer each file by file to the server.
Also no way back, to re-install the previous version of FileZilla. Catalina simply rejects and prompts to contact the developer for a "save" program.

Guess we all are pretty annoyed by Catalina's new access 'safety' protocol, but what do you mean by a bug in macOS?

That all macOS FileZilla users better look for an alternative FTP tool solution?
or
That FileZilla is working on the issue to resolve?

Hope the last, for such a fun tool.
