horrible gradients in tabs after update

#1 Post by michaelzap » 2020-05-09 20:37

Hello -

Love FZ. Been using it for years and it does everything that I need from an FTP app. I don't mind that the interface looks a little dated, but after recently updating my main system to Ubuntu 20.04 the connection and file transfer tabs have such a terrible, shiny gradient on them that they're actually difficult to even read.

I've tried changing system themes, and that doesn't seem to affect these tabs/gradients. I've tried choosing different themes in FZ (my favorite is Papyrus Dark), and that also doesn't affect these tabs. And I've tried changing appearance in the Tweaks tool, which also doesn't change these.

I don't remember these looking like this before. How can I make it legible (e.g., without gradients or with less fugly ones)? I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling yet, but other than that I've futzed with everything that I would think could fix this to no avail.

I'm using FZ 3.46.3 (the non-snap version).

Thanks in advance for any help!

This is the latest version in the Ubuntu 20.04 repos:

Code: Select all

filezilla is already the newest version (3.46.3-1build1).
And I don't think that I'm asking a question that has very much to do with the specific version that I have installed. I could see why you might be reluctant to offer advice if I were running some ancient version on an out-of-date system. But this is the latest FZ in the repos of the most popular Linux distro, and I'm just asking where I should look to figure this out.

If there is a PPA that I could use to get the most recent version, I'd be willing to do that. But I don't want to do a manual installation for an issue that is more aesthetic than functional. I need to use FZ every day, and I want to continue to receive updates via regular channels instead of having to do it manually from now on.

Anyone else here have the same issue and/or have any advice on how to resolve it?

Yes, repo versions are third-party repackages and re-distributions. As per the license, full support for these packages has to be provided by the repo package maintainer. They are not supported here, no matter how popular the distro is.

If you can reproduce the same problem with the version from this site (just extract and run from your user space), then it will become relevant.
