How to connect to FTP using IP address?

I've been using the FIlezilla FTP clients for many years and I really like this one.
I just moved my web server to another hosting provider, finished setting up the FTP site and I've changed the DNS settings for A record etc. but the domain propagation is not yet complete and I need to connect to the new web server's FTP site using the IP address at the moment. I cannot use ftp.example.com as the host name because the domain propagation is not yet complete.
In Filezilla client, after entering my new web server's IP address as the host, I could connect to the FTP site but I cannot login to the FTP site because after entering the Username as XXX.XX.XX.XXX|Username I get the error - 530 Valid hostname is expected
So,... what is the correct way of entering the username, if I am using the IP address as the host?

Try using the original username (with the hostname, not IP). The IP is only required in the Host field in FileZilla, to skip DNS resolving.
