Large file transfer fails, any alternative solutions?

#1 Post by Technologymakingmepsycho » 2020-07-25 04:42

Once a month I would like to upload a video of our educational meetings. Once edited, these videos are always over 4GB and are saved as an MP4. I have all but given up on finding a solution to upload a 4GB mp4 video file to our website. We have a shared web hosting account and our host agent is Hostinger. I am a Noob novice at FTP and find there are more tentacles than an octopus as to what could be wrong.

Using passive mode with active as fall back, explicit FTP over TLS the upload speed average is 288kiB/s and the file always terminates around 1GB or just short of an hour by seconds, and instead of resuming where it stopped then starts over at the beginning. No timeout errors are generated. My associate and I have installed Filezilla and two other FTP clients on 3 different home networks and four different computers and all have the same result. Filezilla Network wizard passes the tests. I have enabled port forwarding on our routers, tried various configurations on the clients and tried to find any settings in windows firewall or defender, examined the NIC, turned the NAT off on our DSL modems, shut the windows firewalls off and all result in no joy. I can transfer successfully if the file will transfer under an hour. Hostinger states the problem is not on their end.

I can upload the video to my google drive without using an FTP client. So will Filezilla Pro allow transfer from my google drive to our web site public folder?
If not is there a way to split an mp4 video file into multiple files less than 1GB before uploading then transfer the split files via FTP and reassemble once on the server?

The log of my last transfer attempt follows

The internet is unreliable, transfer failures are going to happen eventually.

FileZilla can automatically resume transfers in case of errors. Unfortunately your server administrator or server hosting provider has disabled resuming of uploads. Contact your server administrator or server hosting provider to have the server configuration fixed.

Using a cloud storage provider won't help in this case, these hipster cloud protocols can't handle resume well, FTP (if configured properly) is superior in every way.

BOTG, Thank you for the input. I have been out of town for the last few days. I will contact Hostinger and see what they say. Right now they are having me go trough the settings on Filezilla. I do not think the setting is the problem as file transfer that can be completed in under an hour works OK. Right now the want me to try plain FTP which I am loath to do.

That's bullshit. They are focusing on the transfer error part. Ignore their requests entirely. Ask them directly to enable resume of uploads.
