Can One Restart Windows Without File Transfer Interruption?

#1 Post by GenniferFlowers » 2007-12-12 23:17

Pretty much, the subject line is my Question! Can One Restart Windows Or Go On To Other Applications, Including Installs that Require a Windows Restart, WITHOUT Causing One's File Transfer To Be So Badly Interrupted That It Fails? And IF It DOES Fail, Can It Be Re-Qeued And Toggled WITHOUT LOSING THE PERCENTAGE OF TRANSFER THAT HAD ALREADY TAKEN PLACE BEFORE ONE'S DEPARTURE FROM WINDOWS? JUST WONDERING! Thank-You For Your Time And Consideration... Gennifer Flowers  :|   :? 8)

Yes, you can either pause the transfer, which it will remember next time, or when your done restarting, and go to transfer the files 'again' you will see in the file overwrite dialog a 'resume' button. That basically starts transferring that file from where it left off.

Well, when Windows is shutdown/rebooted all programs are closed and all services shut down. Of course all transfers will be interrupted, then.

As for the second question, if your server supports resuming of files, then you will not lose what you already downloaded or uploaded. The server should support REST/APPE commands. Please note some servers still have problems with files 4GiB and larger.

Edit: One faster, will submit anyway.

:D  :) Thank You VERY MUCH! Your Answers Were MORE Than Adequate to Answer My Questions, and I THANK YOU AGAIN!!! I Hope This Will Help Others Also, and My Ignorant Questions Will Have NOT Been In VAIN! There is, however, one point on which I would not mind a little further clarification on... It's just that, FM Kaiba, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PAUSE THE TRANSFER, AND I HAVE LOOKED FOR THAT FUNCTION A LOT! I'd Appreciate Any Further Feedback, Although I Am SURE It's Something SO Simple That I'm Going To KICK MYSELF For Not Seeing It To BEGIN With! Anyway, Thanks A Third Time EVERYONE! gf

You simply stop the transfer, partially transferred files are not deleted.

FMKaiba & boco, I STILL Do Not Understand HOW To "Stop the Transfer"! Do I choose "Disconnect"? I am not Trying to Be Clueless, I Just AM! I Also Believe That A PAUSE Capability On A File-Transfer Program Would Be HELPFUL! I Don't See One On FileZilla ANYWHERE! WHERE Am I Missing It? BE SPECIFIC! Like I said, I AM CLUELESS! Thanks AGAIN For Your Time And Consideration... gf

Colored bold font and text with a high amount of caps. Makes it very much unreadable.

Depends on the client. In most cases closing the client means cancelling transfers.
