FileZilla versions for Mac OS X

#1 Post by Perkele » 2008-05-16 02:14

Does anybody know which is the most up to date version of Filezilla that works with Mac OS X 10.4?
SourceForge lists older versions here http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... e_id=15149
But the release notes don't say which OS X version they work with

I know there are tons of Mac OS X 10.4 users using Filezilla out there.

I'm running OS 10.4.11 and just downloaded 3.0.6 per some comments I saw in the forums here. If this is a mistake and someone happens upon my post who is familiar with this issue please confirm whether or not I can use this version and whether it's advisable.

If problematic I can upgrade my OS to accomodate a newer version.

it would be very useful indeed if there would be on the download page some easy-to-find information about the last version supporting OSX 10.4.x, OSX 10.3.9 ... and maybe even OS X 10.2, since FileZilla's support for that system is prominently advertised on pure-mac.com.

this would be very useful for people who don't look for the latest feature, but NEED to do some basic ftp transfer from some obsolete machine.

Older versions compiled for OS X 10.4 suffer from known security vulnerabilities in a third part dependency. Using them puts you at a great risk.

Ok, that's good to know. I also see that this topic has been discussed in many other threads on this forum. Sorry for making you repeat yourself.

Beyond that, are there any recommendations of a secure free open-source FTP software for OSX 10.3 / 10.4 users?

Cyberduck also dropped 10.3 support some time ago.. seems the only option left is the FireFTP add-on? (which would probably even work with OS X 10.2.x, as that's still supported by the current Firefox)

FileZilla should work with OS X 10.3 if you can get it to compile. Which is very difficult on older versions of OS X, the toolchain has improved a lot in 10.5

If (like me) you are "stuck" for whatever reason on an older version of Mac OS X, then I would agree with botg in saying don't use a vunerable old version of Fz.

If for example you simply must stay with Mac OS X 10.4 then it's safer to use CyberDuck Version 3.0.2

It's a real problem that Mac OSX 10.4 isn't supported anymore by Filezilla.
For anyone else using Mac you could try a free product called Classic FTP:
http://www.nchsoftware.com/ftp/index.html

Otherwise try a free 15 day trial of Fetch http://fetchsoftworks.com/

For those of us who can't afford to constantly upgrade our operating systems the options are limited it seems.

But it would be extremely useful if Filezilla would actually advertise the fact that anything below Mac OS X 10.5 won't work. It would save people a lot of wasted time.

DId you even bother reading what's written on the download page? Or are you just an irate user trolling around?
