How to use FileZilla

#1 Post by twinthings » 2008-06-17 05:33

Hi,

I am a newbie to FileZilla. I had a great IT create my site and upload the files to my new host etc.
As I am just starting out, I am wanting to learn how to manage my oscommerce site.

I have gathered I had to install a FTP to manage my files on my website.
Heard that FileZilla was great and free........ so I download it, and now
Have no idea what I have to do next.

If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated, I am such a novice.

Regards
Fiona

You need the Filezilla Client. FTP deteils from your hoster are essential: hostname, username, password (sometimes account, too). With these you can connect to the hosters FTP containing your website files. Using Filezilla, you can download and upload then. Filezilla can NOT edit websites, just transfer them.

Hi there,
I tried to read the FAQ, but couldn't find where it is. I am probably asking questions that would be listed there.
I am new at this so bear with me...
I need to know how to use FileZilla. I downloaded FileZilla Client, but don't understand what I am supposed to do. I successfully connected.

I went with StartLogic as a host, and I am starting to wonder if that was a good idea. But I will try to make the best of it!

I have done everything they have told me to, but I still get this message upon going to my URL:
Directory has no index file.
Browsing this site or directory without an index file is prohibited.
If you are the site's webmaster, you can remedy this problem by creating a default HTML page with one of the following names:
index.html
index.htm
default.htm
Default.htm
home.html
Home.chtml
NOTE: Filenames are case sensitive, i.e., Home.html is not the same as home.html

Can anyone clarify what I need to do? I designed my website on Microsoft Publisher, and wonder if I am saving it correctly. Thanks

Maybe they are in the wrong directory. Possible locations:

/ (root)
/htdocs
/www
/public_html
/cgi_bin
