slow file transfer after installing server

I install filezilla FTP server on my Windows 2000 workstation file server . everything looks like and I am able to use the program. However, accessing to any files in the shared folder remotely becomes painfully very slow. to solve this problem, I have to uninstall the server program. after I have taken off the FTP server program, the accessing speed comes back to fast again. Do anyone know what the problem is?
