FileZilla (Vista): Error, could not connect to server
I added filezilla to my windows firewall and I still can't connect to the server.
This is frustrating and I have a lot of work that needs to be done.

Re: FileZilla Server (Vista): Error, could not connect to server
Not enough, you need to add all the ports used by the server as exception.

Re: FileZilla Server (Vista): Error, could not connect to server
Say that again in a way that us non techno people can understand, please.
If I go into my firewall, I can go to exceptions. I added filezilla. Now, if I go to Add Port, it asks me for a name, port number and protocol. I know the port number is 21. What is the name? What is the protocol - TCP or UDP?
Also, I tried to add filezilla server interface and I got the error message that it can not add it to the exceptions.
Last thing...I tried turning off my firewall and connect on to filezilla. Still won't allow connection.
None of this happened until I downloaded the latest "upgrade" a couple of days ago. And since I see quite a few people having problems connecting on the server...........what is Filezilla doing about this?
Thanks.

help, please. I'm just about to the point where I'm going to uninstall filezilla and download another ftp program.
Re: FileZilla Server (Vista): Error, could not connect to server
if you had your server working previously fine.. and you updated..Zuska wrote:Say that again in a way that us non techno people can understand, please.

goto winblows firewall delete the filezilla server exception. RESTART your computer. go back into the windows firewall add program browse to the filezilla server... add it.

Did exactly as recommended. No success:Cypress wrote:if you had your server working previously fine.. and you updated..Zuska wrote:Say that again in a way that us non techno people can understand, please.

Re: FileZilla Server (Vista): Error, could not connect to server
Then what is it? I bring up my filezilla program, put in my host, username, password and port straight into where filezilla asks me to, click on quickconnect and that is what comes up. Not meaning any disrespect, but it's coming straight from filezilla and what I entered always worked before I uploaded the latest upgrade.
Please explain what this is, if you can. I need to be able to upload changes on my website. I need help. I had no problems before the upgrade asked for by filezilla. I did everything filezilla told me to do. So........

Re: FileZilla Server (Vista): Error, could not connect to server
The 'Filezilla program' is the client. The Moderator logs tell me you posted it in Server support, which is for Filezilla Server only. Hence botg moved it here. And now moving it to Client support where it belongs.
The topic has been split. The part about the server is now in the correct forum, the rest is here.

Re: FileZilla (Vista): Error, could not connect to server
ok. Can you help me?
Re: FileZilla (Vista): Error, could not connect to server
Filezilla sends any credentials as-is. If it wouldn't, we had a forum full of complaints here.
The server is rejecting what you entered. All three can be wrong: hostname, username, password.
Is the username maybe case-sensitive? The best would be to contact the server admin to verify your credentials.
Note: The line
331 User goodnaturedearthling.com okay, need password.
doesn't mean that the username is correct, just that it has been received correctly. Even a fully nonsense username is accepted, then rejected after PASS. This is to prevent username guessing.

Re: FileZilla (Vista): Error, could not connect to server
Thank you. I have my host, username, password written down.
I have entered the information correctly and exactly as I have successfully in the past before the upgrade.
I'm still maintaining the problem lies somewhere in the upgrade.

Re: FileZilla (Vista): Error, could not connect to server
Since I was getting no help at all here, I went to a local geek who was happy to listen to me and actually gave me direction to take and told me in terms that I could understand. I was able to solve my connection problem on my own.
It may behoove the admin/mods on this forum to realize that not all "clients" of filezilla are as computer literate as you may be and to talk with people...especially when they post they are not computer literate..........in a way that they can understand. The snootyness was uncalled for and the focus on where the post was and where it should be should have been a non issue. The focus should be on solving the problem since filezilla will not talk with people directly and we are held hostage on this forum hoping and praying that someone will take pity on us poor "stupid" people and actually come down off your throne long enough to actually be of help. To keep clients, you have to serve clients. I learned this in my business.

Re: FileZilla (Vista): Error, could not connect to server
Well said.
I have exactly the same problem. Any chance you might remember how you got around it? My host assures me that they can connect OK, so it's something that's changed on my PC.
Thanks.
