URL/HTTP links for files

#1 Post by jinx_you » 2008-08-06 22:25

So, I'm probably asking the stupidest question possible but I'm horrible with anything computer related. I've been looking everywhere and messing around with Filezilla but I still haven't figured out how I can copy the URL/HTTP links for files uploaded onto. I was using SmartFTP before and all I had to do was right click on the file and it'd be available. But, I haven't been able to figure it out for Filezilla yet. If anyone could help, well, it'd be much appreciated.

I vote for it :).

It would be nice to have a feature to copy the FTP (and maybe HTTP) link for the selected file to clipboard. Please :smoke:

Yes... please make this happen. I have a lot of .mp3 I manage online and it would be great to have a feature where I can copy their URLs and embed them into my website.

:)

I use 3.2.5 now and it doesn't copy the password!

It just copies

Code: Select all

ftp://username@host.xy/folder/file.xyz
There's missing the ":pass" after username ;)

Constructing HTTP URLs is impossible, because the FTP location of the file may differ from the HTTP location (both filesystems are virtual). Besides, FileZilla does not know about the filesystem structure of the domains.

Example:
FTP loc: ftp://example.com/public_html/files/foo.bar
HTTP loc: http://example.com/files/foo.bar

Not correct. SmartFTP does exactly this by allowing you to specify the http url prefix to add to the file path. Works fine, and that's why I will probably end up paying for SmartFTP rather than using Filezilla.

It's very simple

Works fine
It is only guesswork, and doesn't work for every situation.
