Cannot Connect to Server

#1 Post by dixter » 2009-01-13 04:21

I've been using FireZilla for the past 8 months and have never had a problem with it. Until recently. I had just accepted the new upgrade/new version of FileZilla and now my sever will not connect at all. I've been using the same Quickconnect address everytime and haven't had a problem. This is what I get when I click on my quickconnect:

Status: Waiting to retry...
Status: Delaying connection due to previously failed connection attempt...
Status: Resolving address of ftp.happy-poop.com
Status: Connection attempt failed with "EAI_NONAME - Neither nodename nor servname provided, or not known".
Error: Could not connect to server

It tries to connect over 4 seperate times; all the same listing as such. I've read through most of the guide lines, forum questions and answers..and honestly. A lot of it is way over my head to fully comprehend what may be the problem. I know my firewall is not blocking it and internet connection is working perfectly. I've checked through all that. It frustrates me that I can't figue this out and I'm going to feel really silly if this is a simple fix. :?

If anyone can help, this is greatly appreciated!

I am having the same problem this morning. Downloaded the update this morning. Something told me to make my changes before I did the download, but I didn't. I wish I had. Now, I'm stuck with changes that need to be made and can not get them uploaded on the website.

Did you re-allow Filezilla in the firewall? With the update Filezilla's checksum changed, hence firewalls treats it as a new program. Usually firewalls ask the user to confirm the change, but some are not. ZoneAlarm is an example.

Yes, I re-allowed Filezilla in the firewall. Still will not allow connection.

Would you try 68.180.151.123 or 68.180.151.124 instead of the hostname? If that works, your DNS resolving is blocked.

I am also having the same troubles. I have set FileZilla server up many times in the past, and do not understand what the problem is this time.

When I try to connect to my FTP server, I get this error:

Status: Connecting to 71.41.18.176:21...
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Could not connect to server

From the admin side it says:

FileZilla Server version 0.9.31 beta
Copyright 2001-2009 by Tim Kosse (tim.kosse@filezilla-project.org)
Connecting to server...
Connected, waiting for authentication
Logged on

I can assure you that there is no firewall blocking the connection, and that the connection is properly forwarded to the computer through the router. I have 21 and 80 both forwarded to the same machine, and the HTTP server works fine (http://71.41.18.176/).

Furthermore, I can connect to the FTP server just fine from my internal network, just can not connect to it through the external IP. Maybe I need to forward additional ports?

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions as to what the problem might be, please let me know. I fear I am going to have to try an older version. I know this post is a few months old, but there is no solution, and I need one please, thanks!

Yeah, but unfortunately forwarding port 21 is not enough for FTP. Read Network Configuration.

Hi I am having the same problems. I have enabled port forwarding on 50000. I am using explicit ftps over tls.
I know it works because another user on another machine is accessing the server. I am admin so I should be able to connect.

I CAN connect with my credentials using my ANDROID phone FTP app and using Https from this very computer but not with ftp on filezilla client. However, I have previously been able to connect with a normal ftp connection when I enable PF on 21 but I wanted something more secure. Voila no access.

My server is rejecting the connection for some reason it is a netgear readynas 312.
here is what I get

Status: Resolving address of dnsname.com (my DNS name)
Status: Connecting to XXX.XX.XXX.X:50000... (my IP address)
Status: Connection attempt failed with "ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server".
Error: Could not connect to server

and my settings are as follows. I have tried active and passive transfer but to no avail. Does the server have a maximum number of conections and that's it? I have restarted the server and filezilla. Any ideas?

And where are your data ports?
