Error opening file for writing!

#1 Post by connies » 2009-06-03 21:49

I can't seem to update to version 3.2.4.1...everytime I try to install it gives me the error message above. Only options are to abort, retry or ignore. I ignored but then couldn't log into server. Please advise..

How exactly are you starting the update procedure?

What is your operating system and its version?

I am having the same problem trying to update from version 3.2.4 to version 3.2.6.1
I am using Windows Vista 64 bits.
The windows user I am running has administrator privileges.
If I try to update from the interface it shows an error message saying it could not be done.
I downloaded FileZilla_3.2.6.1_win32-setup.exe and when I try to run it, it says there was an error opening the file c:\Program Files (x86)\FileZilla FTP Clent\Filezilla.exe for writing.
Any ideas?
Thank you.

Quit all running instances of Filezilla (look into Taskmanager, too). Make sure the setup routine starts elevated (it should automatically).

I am sure there was no instance running when I tried to use the downloaded installer, but is seems Vista thought otherwise.

I restarted my pc and was able to install the new version.

Then I tried to delete the installer (that was on my desktop) and Vista said:
1- You need to provide authorization.
2.- After I clicked to proceed with the file deletion it said it could not delete it.

I just turned off my pc and when I turned it on several minutes later, I was able to delete the installer.

Same problem here solved like this :

1) Right click on the setup file
2) Execute as admin
3) Installation is running

You're done :)

I have the same problem.
I did what you say but the same thing happens.

1) Right click on the setup file
2) Execute as admin

But the installation does not continue. It keeps saying that it cannot write filezilla.exe

I was getting this error during an update of FIleZilla to the latest version. I decided to try to delete the file C:\Program Files\FileZilla FTP Client\FileZilla.exe. But Windows 10 would not let me delete the file no matter what (command prompt admin RD etc..) I thought of using Unlocker third party delete tool. However, my Bitdefender antivirus needed to update itself. I rebooted to update Bitdefender and when I came back in the files in C:\Program Files\FileZilla FTP Client\ were gone except for the uninstall.exe. After that I installed the latest version and all is well. It seems like a miracle that somehow the reboot removed those files? Or maybe Bitdefender had them locked?
