FileZilla Client ver 3.2.8 - Freezes

#1 Post by sukeshhoogan » 2009-10-09 14:24

My apologies if this has been dealt with earlier, but could not find any appropriate post or FAQ.

OS : Windows 2000 Professional (with all the service packs and updates).

I have been FileZilla client for the last couple of months. It has worked fine without any problems.

Today, whenever I start FileZilla Client, it freezes/hangs.
When I try to end the programme (including via Task Manager), I get the message
"The Programme is being dubbed. It cannot be closed." Repeated attempts fail.
The Windows Task Manager indicates 100% CPU Usage.

I have to shut down and restart the computer.

This happened twice with version 3.2.6.1.
So I uninstalled the application and installed version 3.2.8.
Same problem (tried it thrice). The programme hangs/freezes.

Would appreciate a resolution to the problem or a link indicated.

The Programme is being dubbed. It cannot be closed.
Dubbed?

Please note that Windows 2000 hasn't been officially supported since quite a while.

Sorry. It should have been 'Debugged'

If Win2KP is not supported, then I have to get some other FTP client.

I'm using it on a Win2000 machine and it works. From other threads on this forum, it looks like the Auto-update feature doesn't work on 2000.

Navigate to %APPDATA%\FileZilla, open filezilla.xml.

Search for

Code: Select all

        <Setting name="Update Check" type="number">1</Setting>
and change to

Code: Select all

        <Setting name="Update Check" type="number">0</Setting>
.

Then try again.

That would be very strange, nothing special about the update check, uses no uncommon API functions not available on Windows 2000.

Yeah but we had a similar issue already. It can't hurt to try. I run FZ3 on Win2k but with AutoUpdate turned off. Last version checked was 3.2.8, run beautyfully.

Thank you for the tip. As there was some urgency of work, I uninstalled FileZilla and installed Core FTP Lite. Will keep your suggestion in mind if I install FileZilla again.

I suspect it has something to do with the new https:// authentication.

*sigh* It's such a common term it's even explained in most dictionaries.

Please read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU

Just to confirm, I also had the exact same freezing on startup issue with the 100% CPU usage, and not being able to close from Task Manager (on the second attempt it would report can't close due to being locked for debugging). I also am running Windows 2000 Pro with all patches and service packs on an AMD Athlon 700 MHz based PC. For some reason, it seems that Windows 2000 Professional doesn't like the update checking process in Filezilla Client 3.2.8.1. Changing the setting in filezilla.xml to not auto-check fixed the problem here as well.
