#1 Post by gionnico » 2006-02-15 19:32

Hi.. what does "bind" means? (I don't speak english very well)

What is the option "Bind the server to the following IP addresses"?

thx... :)

you use this if you have more than one network connection on your computer. For example. If you have one computer at your home, and you have two, or three, or four network cards plugged into it, each will hae their own IP address. You can use 'bind' so that the server will only listen to a particular IP address. If you want the server to listen on 'all' ip addresses, enter *

If you only have *ONE* network card in your computer, type * in the settings of filezilla server.

does that answer you question?

Yes.. I have just a network card, so I don't have to worry about binding, right?

But if I'd like to install the server in a LAN? I might set binding to all my 192.168 IPs?
The same for admin interface?

inside the lan, you must configure your router to 'route' all traffic going to port 21 (your ftp port) to go to computer xx.yy.zz.bb. But if you computer only have one network card, you will only bind to THAT ip address, it cannot bind to the other addresses in the LAN, because they are not running the server, on 'you' are. If every computer had a server running (fz FTP server) they would bind to 'their own' ip addresses. The server would only listen to requests on THEIR OWN ip address, not all ip's of the LAN. You only need to type * in the 'bind' section of fz server. In the section ' allow the following IP addresses to connect to the admin interface' type *.*.*.*

Does that answer your question?
