See which users have downloaded which files..?

#1 Post by RTM100 » 2010-09-24 14:20

Hello,

I have a question about FileZilla server I hope someone can answer...

What we want to do is set up an FTP site and allow multiple users to connect to it. We will be hosting various files and what I want to know is, can the software produce an easily understood log for non-technical people which shows which remote users pulled which files? I need software that does this because every time someone pulls a file from us, we need to be able to make a record of it so we can charge - is this something this software can do?

Thanks!

What you want is statistics. FileZilla Server doesn't support that.

Most commercial FTP servers have some type of statistics. So it would depend on what features you need also. The server I'm using (zFTPServer) keeps detailed logs about transfers. You can even get a summary in the server GUI. I attached a picture to this post (filenames removed from the picture). Is that what you're after?

Filezilla Log Analyzer (http://forum.filezilla-project.org/view ... =6&t=14719) can do what you ask by reading the log files created by Filezilla Server. It is a separate piece of software, however. See provided link for details.

Thanks Boco

Looks like the kind of thing I'm interested in - the gist of my requirements is I need something that shows who downloaded which file and how many times as this will form the basis for charging.

I'll also have a look into what "Stunner" said too

Cheers guys!
