Ok, I already checked the server, the network configuration wizard and everything like that.
Here's the situation:

A friend of mine asked me to do the server management of his site. Since I'ts been a while since I did stuff like that, I agreed for keeping myself fresh. Now, I need to update a few files, so I reinstalled FileZilla. However, for some reason FileZilla can't log me in.

I'm running in passive mode, not knowing the correct port number. It shouldn't be the problem, since it states the login is incorrect. Checked the username/pass multiple times, still able to log in the server controls by browser.

Who has the answer which enables me to use the client again?

The username is case-sensitive. Do you enter it differently in the browser? Note that most of the time usernames are written in pure lowercase (no capitalization).

Browser accepts both, FileZilla neither.

Then it's the password. Are there any ''unusual'' chars in it?

Just letters and numbers, so the password shouldn't be the problem either.
It's starting to get annoying, since it delays the update pretty much.

Something must have been entered differently if it works in your browser but not in FileZilla.

Checked and double-checked that already, tried it again today, still no access by FTP.
When entering exactly the same username and password, I only get access by browser.

Guess there is something wrong with the configuration, but what?

See botg's reply above. The username is usually accepted, even if it's incorrect, to prevent account-guessing. If you don't know the correct login-data, contact your hoster.
