Set by step instructions for configuring the SFTP Server

#1 Post by cholubaz » 2012-03-22 17:42

I have spent about 2 hours now looking for directions on how to configure the FileZilla SFTP server.

Sorry if it's in plain site and I missed it but can someone point me to it.

What I set up so far work fine if I just want FTP but I need it to be SFTP

Cheers,
Chris

You can stop searching, FileZilla Server doesn't support SFTP. It does only support FTPS/FTPES, FTPES is described in http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/FTPS_ ... 8Server%29.
No support requests over PM! You will NOT get any reply!!!

I had a feeling that was the case after more research. So I think I set it up correctly but the client is not getting in but on the server I get the message
000006)3/22/2012 15:01:27 PM - (not logged in) (72.xxx.xxx.xx)> Connected, sending welcome message...
(000006)3/22/2012 15:01:27 PM - (not logged in) (72.xxx.xxx.xx)> 220-FileZilla Server version 0.9.41 beta
(000006)3/22/2012 15:01:27 PM - (not logged in) (72.xxx.xxx.xx)> 220-written by Tim Kosse (Tim.Kosse@gmx.de)
(000006)3/22/2012 15:01:27 PM - (not logged in) (72.xxx.xxx.xx)> 220 Please visit http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/
(000006)3/22/2012 15:01:47 PM - (not logged in) (72.xxx.xxx.xx)> disconnected.

But on the other end on the client I get
Status: Connecting to 98.174.196.34...
Response: fzSftp started
Command: open "dsolutions@98.174.196.34" 22
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Could not connect to server
Status: Waiting to retry...

Any Idea what I missed?

Thanks,
Chris

I guess I didn't get across that I configured it as FTPS and abandoned SFTP

Thanks,
Chris

Yes but you still tried to access it with SFTP. You must tell the FTP client you want FTPES and not SFTP!

On the Client side Site Manager you have the option under Protocol for FTP or SFTP. Where is FTPES?

The ''E'' in FTPES stands for ''Explicit''. So you just select Explicit as Encryption setting, with FTP as the protocol. While FTPES and FTPS are extensions of the FTP protocol, SFTP is a completely different one, based on SSH.

We can close this I got it working using SilverSHielD <removed>
Very easy and straight forward
