Remote site folder empty

#1 Post by bila » 2012-02-09 22:47

I am new to Filezilla, and I just need it to upload a png file in the images/flags subfolder of my wp site on Bluehost. But after having connected to the server, the box for the remote site contains only an empty folder. Where is all the rest? What have I done wrong?
Here is the log:

Please check that you didn't accidentally enable any filename filters (menu View).

So the three objects are the . /.. directories plus the empty one. No directory filters active and you still do not see your files?

Doesn't look too good, looks like the server is FUBAR. You must contact the server support.

Don't know is it a similar problem. I can connect to the ftp, browse through folders and see files with non-Cyrillic names.

Problem: I can't see files with Cyrillic names.

Appearance: FileZilla 3.5.0, Ubuntu 11.10 x64

Workarounds: for example Firefox can see all files. Also as FileZilla on WindowsXP. Active mode, forcing UTF-8 charset did not helped. Log shows some empty "List: "commands with free space after each. I assume the count of "List: " line is for every "invisible" file. https://ftptest.net/ gives me "Error: FEAT response lines must begin with a single space character".

Can I solve this somehow? Or is it a known bug issue?

It definitely isn't.

If the server you use doesn't support UTF-8, you must not use non-English characters for filenames. See Character Set.
Workarounds: for example Firefox can see all files. Also as FileZilla on WindowsXP.
That's just luck. The behavior is totally undefined.
forcing UTF-8 charset did not helped.
If the server doesn't support UTF-8, forcing will not do anything.
https://ftptest.net/ gives me "Error: FEAT response lines must begin with a single space character".
That's an additional problem of a broken server not following the specifications.

Well, its a big one russian ftp server used worldwide, including CIS countries, having hundreds of users, so I assume it really should support UTF-8. I don't have any support contacts on the other side to resolve this problem. While on Windows, ftp worked with FileZilla in years on diferent PCs. I think Ubuntu could do something with this. And while all other users burn their lives with Windows, no one meet this problem before.

Do not blindly assume, check the logs.

It was just correct custom encoding in "charset" under server settings. In my case - Windows-1252. Looks like under Windows FileZilla can figure it out by itself, while under Ubuntu - it can't. Thanks for helping.
