folder empty

#1 Post by jcwp » 2011-06-11 14:17

I upgraded to newest version, now get folder empty when trying to access server. I know the folder is not empty, this is my web site files, and the web site works.
Any ideas?

Check if there are filename filters enabled.

From which version did you update?

No file name filters active. I'm not sure of the last version number.
Unfortunately filezilla did an auto overwrite or uninstall of the prior version.

I am also getting the following:

Command: LIST
Response: 150 Opening BINARY mode data connection.
Response: 550 Data channel timed out.
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

Response: 550 Data channel timed out.
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing
That's the problem. FileZilla cannot display a listing because it didn't receive one from the server.

Please test your server at https://ftptest.net/ - does it come up with the same error?

If yes, it's a server problem and you have to contact the server administrator.
If no, your firewall decided to block FileZilla after the update and you have to redo the exception rules for it.

fire wall not blocking, filezilla indicates I am connected.
Now get this message:
227 Entering Passive Mode (63,247,193,164,228,77).
Command: LIST
Response: 150 Opening BINARY mode data connection.
Response: 550 Data channel timed out.
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing
Error: Disconnected from server: ECONNABORTED - Connection aborted

Filezilla still indicates I am connected to server.

Would you please test the server? While the initial connection did succeed, the data ports seem to be blocked.

Thank you for your help on this.
Tried server test, it indicated a timeout problem.
My firewall is turned off.

So if the server test fails, too, it means the server is b0rked. You need to contact the server administrator so he/she can fix the server side.

As a temporary workaround, you may have success connecting in Active mode.

OK, tried active mode and I am IN! I tried this earlier with no success; but, now it is working.

Also, the server was maintained by a friend of mine in the IT business. The server was at a "colo" site. My problem started when my friend had a heart attack and died! I have no actual information on who houses the server or how to contact them. His business partner did not even have the password for this server.

Anyway, thank you very much for your patience in working with me. :D :D

Two options:
a) Do a whois on the server's IP address. It will say who the IP address is assigned to. With a good chance it is the hosting company.

b) Do a traceroute on the server's IP address. The second-last hop of the trace will likely have a hostname that identifies the hosting company.

Once you know the hosting company, you can contact them and inquire about the server.
