403 Forbidden Message

#1 Post by bookworm » 2011-12-21 11:59

I have just installed FileZilla on my laptop and have published a minor change to my homepage. The upload seemed to go smoothly, but now, when I try to access my site, I get this message:

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Apache/1.3.29 Server at www.talia-villa.com Port 80

Can anyone tell me what this is or how I can get my site back?

Many thanks
Joanne

What change? Did you modify or remove your index document?

All I did was to change one word - I was just testing it really to see if I could make changes. I added the index page to the queue and then selected process queue. Now the index document is empty - fortunately I had it backed up to an external hard drive.

So the transfer to the server failed (you got an error)?

So it seems. I contacted my hosting company and they said my domain wasn't pointing to the server which they have now corrected and my old site is now appearing again. However, the changes I make in FileZilla still fail to appear on my site. I make changes to the files, open FileZilla, upload the changed files to the queue, process the queue and get a message telling me the files have transferred successfully, however, on my live website the changes do not appear. Does anyone else have this problem?

Browser cache perhaps? Try clearing it.

If you have a complete, uncorrupted copy of your website document on the server, you may have to adjust its permissions to be world-readable (right click the remote file in FileZilla and select ''File permissions...'', try 644, or, if that won't do, 664).
