This seems to be a "popular" problem. When I did a search, I found so many entries; however, the ones I read did not refer to the problem I'm having:
My site was being hosted by a different server. I am trying to move to hostgator.com with no success. Below describes the problem

The user name, which I've changed countless times, is incorrect. The IP address is incorrect, which I've changed countless times, is incorrect. The proxy is incorrect, but I haven't corrected it because I don't know how to get to it.
I went to Filezilla and had read the network configuration, but it makes absolutely no sense to me. I do find it terribly technical and a definite bore, which is definitely not helpful for a neophyte trying to fix a problem.
I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing because I've never had to work with FTP before.
I need to get my site back up since I'm trying to start a virtual assistant business.
I would appreciate any help given as long as you write/speak in 5 cent words and not 50 cent words.

Re: 503 Login authentication failed
yeah I have the same problem with my pass whats going on?
Re: 503 Login authentication failed
First question: Do you need to use a proxy to reach the net? I have the strong suspicion you entered site information to the wrong place.
Look up these two locations in the settings:
Connections - FTP - FTP proxy
Connections - Generic proxy
One of these must contain your proxy information, but only IF you are using one. In any other case, please set both to ''None''.
Your stored site information belongs to the Site Manager, and only there.

Re: 503 Login authentication failed
If you are having problems with your login credentials, contact your server administrator for assistance.
You can change the proxy in the settings dialog of FileZilla.
