Hello all,
I hope someone can help me.
I have successfully been able to generate a ftp server on my PC, such that files in specific folders can be access by other devices which are connected to my network.
I did this by putting the address 192.168.1.100 (my computers network IP address) into the IP address field on the Passive Mode settings page.
What I would like to do now is be able to access these folders from the internet, and so have put in my external IP address (82.3.156.xx) into that field. This didn't work.
I've been onto my router admin, and forwarded ports 14147, 21 and 22 to 192.168.1.100, and still no joy.
My router is a TP W8970.
I am wondering whether what is confusing the issue is the fact that my router enables sharing of USB memory sticks and harddrives, and it is these that are trying to be accessed whenever I try to ftp to 82.3.156.xx
Or, have I totally misunderstood?
Hopefully there is someone on here who has successfully generated a ftp server on their PC despite their router having its own ftp sharing function.
Thanks in advance,
jra505

Re: Cannot access ftp server from outside network
Please read the Network Configuration guide about how to correctly configure FileZilla Server and your router/firewall for Passive mode. Hint: Port 21 is not the only port needing to be forwarded. Test your server using https://ftptest.net/.
Don't forward 14147, it's for remote administration. Don't forward 22, it's for SFTP (not supported by FZ Server).

Re: Cannot access ftp server from outside network
Thanks for your message. I was indeed incorrectly forwarding 14147 and 22, so I've taken those off. I am also forwarding 50000 to 51000, and specified that range in FZ server. Was it these ports you were hinting at?boco wrote:Please read the Network Configuration guide about how to correctly configure FileZilla Server and your router/firewall for Passive mode. In my router, am I correct in forwarding those ports to 192.168.1.100 ? Or should I be putting another address in here?
I've also made an exception for Filezilla in the windows firewall (I've also tried disabling the firewall completely).
ftptest.net still showing it as not working though..................
Re: Cannot access ftp server from outside network
Yes, without them listings and transfers won't work. Additionally, you should use the ''Retrieve'' option for the IP since it probably changes regularly.I am also forwarding 50000 to 51000, and specified that range in FZ server. Was it these ports you were hinting at?
They are forwarded to the LAN IP of the machine having FileZilla Server installed. Make sure the machine's LAN IP is static and not on DHCP (DHCP Reserved is OK).In my router, am I correct in forwarding those ports to 192.168.1.100 ? Or should I be putting another address in here?
Note that sometimes routers need a little 'nudge' (reboot) to work properly.

Re: Cannot access ftp server from outside network
Ok, I think I got it to work.....
It dawned on me that on the ftptest.net website I was leaving the port to be tested as 21. I tried changing this to 50000 and lo and behold it came back with a positive result. As such, I therefore changed the Port to Listen on setting on Filezilla to 50000 as well, and successfully connected from my phone using its 3G connection.
That all sounds sensible?

Seems good. And a port different from 21 means less unwanted visitors...
