Most likely a router or firewall issue.

Connection timed out

#3 Post by dubbeldrop » 2007-09-30 16:20

I'm having the same problem. Checked the firewall settings which seems fine. I am able to establish connection to the same server using HTML-kit without any problem. Does this make sense if it were a firewall/router setting?
<br>
Sofar this problem has occured on 3 different PCs where I've downloaded the new version of FileZilla (3.0.1), while on my own work PC with the older version I'm fine.
<br>
Any further tips gratefully received.

Same issue

#4 Post by rosorio » 2007-10-02 00:00

It is happening the same with me. It started when I installed Filezilla Client 3.0. But if I try to connect using the command prompt, the connection is made with no problem, and I can get directory listings easily.
Even if I try to use the former version of filezilla installed (2.2.23) it won't work.
I have Filezilla Server v. 0.9.23 beta, I will try updating the server, but I'm not sure if it is going to help. After that I will try to uninstall FZ v3.

Also, from a second computer with older version there is no problem.
I will be posting any progress.

I just found this link...which may help.

http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/docume ... ection.htm

It looks a little different in my version of FileZilla than what they have pictured at the above link, but on the connection page you can change the number of attempts at reconnecting, and the time between reconnects.

And under "Transfers" you can set the timeout to Zero "0" which disables the timeout.

Let me know if this helps...as I am also testing these settings out.

I have been having very similar problems.
I started using FZ about a year ago and kept updating to the latest versions. I like FZ's screen layout and I like the way it handles multiple concurrent transfers, including nested folders.
I wish it would be consisted about key presses (eg CTRL) when dragging across multiple files - sometimes it doesn't move the files and just selects other files....but that's for another day.

My main problem is that I am getting frequent timeouts and incomplete files. Normally, an upload gets to the 90's % complete, sometimes even 100% and then times out.
I thought it was our ISP's FTP server being a problem so got them to look at the FTP server (which they did).
I then ran WSFTP which I had used for about 10 years prior to FZ. It didn't have any problems at all.
Clearly, FZ is having a problem that WSFTP doesn't.
So why does FZ keep timing out ?
Interestingly, this only happens with uploads. Downloads are always reliable.

I too am having the same problem. Everything was working fine until I installed IE8. I uninstalled the IE8 update, but the problem still exists. I checked my firewall, which was fine. I can download without problems. I only get the Connection Times Out when I try to upload.

Your IE8 update may have screwed something up. Could be the firewall (try without any firewall), or it may have started the Application Layer Gateway service, which is known to sabotage FTP.

LOL! Sorry! I didnt mean to rush anyone. :wink:

Ok, I shut off all of my firewalls but no change. I looked and the ALG is running. Is it safe to disable it? If so, how would I do that?

Thanks so much for your help!

If you don't use the Internet Connection Sharing, you can disable that service. Use the Service Control Panel to do that.

1. Press WIN+R;
2. Type ''services.msc'' (no quotes) and press <RETURN>;
3. Confirm the Elevation prompt, if any;
4. Search the Application Layer Gateway Service;
5. Double click it and set the Startup Type to Disabled;
6. Try to connect again.

Well, dang. I did like you said, but it didnt work. Then I tried to turn off Windows Firewall too, but that didnt work either.

Im not sure if this info will help, but....a customer needed me to send her a file. Since I cant upload with filezilla, I used 4shared. It worked, but it uploaded at a whopping 3 KB per sec!!! The 2.5 MB file use to only take a few seconds, but it took over 15 minutes for it to upload to 4shared.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give!
