Problem after windows 10 update for "drag and drop file"

#1 Post by antikoseo » 2018-05-17 12:21

Goodmorning everyone. I ask for help.
I have been using FileZilla for many years to publish / edit files / sites via FTP on servers, normally using the "drag and drop" function to overwrite, upload or download files to my PC.
Yesterday my operating system (windows 10) did an update. Today when I started the usual work on the server via FTP, when I try to save a site or overwrite a file on the server opens a FileZilla pop that says: you can not use the "drag and drop file" option.
or why are not you using an Explorer window !?
Or because the shell is not installed or installed incorrectly.
What can I do? I always use Crome as a browser and I can not change. Thank you very much, I look forward to help ..

It's a bug in Windows 10, only Microsoft can fix this.

I was encountering the same issue today. I have tried cmd (following code) but could not solve this issue. I opened cmd as administrator and tried both 32 and 64bit dll just in case.

C:\Windows\system32>cd/
C:\>cd “Program Files”
C:\Program Files>cd “FileZilla FTP Client”
C:\Program Files\FileZilla FTP Client>regsvr32 fzshellext_64.dll

*For users use 32bit, use "regsvr32 fzshellext.dll" instead.

I'm glad that I found this forum and people actually suffer with the same issue...
I've installed WinSCP instead (and can do drag and drop) for the time being though I hope MS can solve this issue as soon as possible. I like FileZilla better.

Other programs still work, I encountered this issue only with Filezilla.
I'm not confident that only Microsoft can fix it.
And as I can see, a lot of people are experiencing the same problem (me too) and will migrate to any alternative client (I don't, I prefer to wait seeing if it will be fixed by someone).

Hello!!
As @palmetree wrote , WinSCP works fine only using "temporary folder" on drag n drop function. ( see it below )

Image

The relative function shell ( drag and drop shell extension ) also on WinSCP is affected from the same win10 1803 update bug!!
So using it on dragging a file it could be dropped only on the local directory ( choosen in the internal local WinsCP shell )

Maybe should be a "solution" for you @botg.. could be processed and included in filezilla' s options this "termporary folder".
What do you think about ?

In order to get around the problem while waiting for microsoft fix ( Let's get Xmas waiting for them... )
See you and regards!!

You are wrong, my WinSCP works well with any directory.
Just tested.
(I'm using WinSCP 5.9.2 build 6958)

My WinSCP also works well with any directory as well:) I haven't been using FileZilla for a while. Until this problem is fully solved by Windows10. I'm not going to use FileZilla. WinSCP is good.

I agree that a drag and drop workaround will have to be implemented in FileZilla or users will migrate to other clients. Microsoft's behaviour is to either ignore bugs, or claim they are a "feature".
Sadly, Microsoft is like a government. If the government passes a bad law that affects your business, you don't shut down your business and wait for the law to be changed. You figure a way to adapt.

@kalamun and @ Palmtree you are right !! I'm sorry for a given bad info!!
Now tested and winSCP works good in any setting and directory !! thank you very much.
I hope filezilla could implement this in the next release. I completely agree with @timg11

regards !! ;)

@ botg
If this was a Microsoft Windows 10 problem after the recent update then I wouldn't be able to drag & drop from anywhere in Windows 10.
I am able to drag & drop from any Microsoft window BUT cannot drag & drop from Filezilla to Windows 10 anymore since the recent update.
My company uses this client for work and has for many years now.
It would be a shame to have to switch to a different client because Filezilla only wants to pass the buck and not actually research the problem or provide a patch.

Wrong. Plain drag&drop of existing files does not require ICopyHook interface.

If the mechanic breaks the window wipers when changing tires, you still can use your car for most things, you just can't wipe your windows anymore.

Downgrade to Windows 1709 or wait for until Microsoft fixes the bug.

Weirdly I have the same problem (that's not the weird bit,) but FZ is creating a folder called fz3-15281009498350 in the destination.

What a stupid answer. You just convinced me to leave FileZilla for WinSCP.
Ok, FZ is free so nothing changes for you. Thank you for the great work you did till now.
