How do you do that?
Open the Site Manager entry and click the tabs. I think it's the last tab that allows you to set a max qty of simultaneous connections.

I did that under transfer settings yet it did nothing.

I am coming here due to just being insulted asking the same question, but I do not want to reduce Filezilla's number of connections. I have a BIG FAT PIPE (50Mbps) and have a server with no limit on the number of FTP connections. This leads me to believe that the answer I am looking for does not belong in this particular post being the answer here is all about telling FileZilla to only use 1 or 2 connections, but the original place I posted it. If this can be addressed here, please help in doing this and answereing it here in the forum post so people can stop asking why they cant use multiple connections when by all means nothing should be stopping that.

The fact is: The error message is coming from the server. I really don't know why, but for some reason it won't let you create another. It could be even that instead of (or additionally) restricting the number of users it's restricting the number of connections globally. So if other users saturate the connections, you have to wait.

If you know you're alone on the server, there's something wrong with it's config. Note that some servers can be disabled or restricted based on a schedule, so it may be just disabled right now.

It's a GoDaddy hosted server, with dedeicated IP. I have spoken with there customer service and they have told me that I am not limited by the number of connections but maybe they are misunderstanding me. I will contact them on Monday over that. If you are aware of this actually existing with other GoDaddy accounts let me know so I can find out if they are just bs'ing me. off-topic if you know of any hosting plans with comparable pricing where I wouldnt have this problem PM me please.

Use the forum search and enter 'GoDaddy 421'.

Example thread: http://forum.filezilla-project.org/view ... odaddy+421

So they ARE restricting.

I probably should have tried that first instead og the seaching just the 421 status message. Turns out that they only allow 2 connections at any one time. Only found this out after speaking with lvl 1, 2 , and 3 support last night all telling me I have upto 50 connections. Then tonite after a search og the web using "godaddy only allow two connections" was actually given the truth...GoDaddy only allows two connections for uploading/downloading your web site and web site updates. How is it that even their top tier of support did not know this, especially after calling tonite to correct their support info and the agent I spoke with (lvl 1) already knew this? Looks like I will be looking for a new hosting source that actually knows what they are doing, if anyone knows of any decently priced ones please send me a PM as it would not belong here in this thread (like all the babble I just gave...sorry).

Anyway, problem solved and soory for being any pain in the @$$ that I may have been...maybe i will change my screen name to hemoroid for a week or so to make it up...j.k.! But really, thank you for seeing that I was looking for something slightly different than the other 421 posts, and also for helping me locate the correct info. Is there anyway to put a sticky up on known servers that only allow one or two connections so others dont have to look through everything?

You should read: Too many concurrent connections from this IP (8). So do you have 8 connections open at that time? If yes, you simply cannot use more. If no, then a firewall prevents connections from being closed properly. Only after they timeout you can connect again.

Did you have any failed (interrupted) transfers before that happened?

I've been having this exact error message with the latest (last two) versions of FileZilla. I don't remember having it with an older version I ran before (don't remember). Nothing has changed server-wise and nothing has changed connection wise. I tried all the tricks (the check box to limit max connections, setting it to 1, opening the firewall up to my machine, etc).

Unfortunately, the only fix was to switch FTP clients. The two other free ones that I tried worked flawlessly. Being that I transfer about 2000 items, my queue gets big. Although the error message IS presented by the server, something FileZilla appears to be doing (hanging connections or what not) that other FTP clients don't do, is causing the concurrent connection issue (at least for me). It should also be noted that I did even test the concurrent connection settings of the other programs. When set to the limit of my server (8), they continued to operate without getting the lock-out.

If the devs want to know which apps were working, they can PM me (won't post as I don't want to advertise).

I tried the steps listed in this thread- and I see that this thread is a little bit old, but they didn't help. Any other suggestions? I did the same upload with another ftp client and it worked without a hitch...
I like FZ, but I'm surprised at it flaking out like this, seemingly out of nowhere.

if those settings made in filezilla didn't help then maybe you are connected to the internet through a router who's doing sleeping connections. restarting your modem/router should solve the problem.

cheers!

Well,Boco's solution does allow me to transfer, but it seems a poor way to handle it. I have been using Filezilla for several years and frequently had 3 or 4 simultaneous transfers going. Is this change supposed to be more efficient? Why the change? :(
