Which file you want, the old (0.9.x) or the new one (1.x)?
The 0.9.x "FileZilla Server.xml" is in the Program Files directory where FZ Server 0.9.x is installed.
But the location of the user config files from the new version (groups.xml and users.xml) depends on how you run it. For the default "installed as service, running under user SYSTEM" install, it would be

Re: Location of the settings file (FileZilla.xml)?
FYI, current nightlies and the next releases change the location where settings are saved if the FileZilla Server is running under the SYSTEM user. In that case, settings are saved under %PROGRAMDATA%\filezilla-server. Settings from the old location are automatically imported.
Re: Location of the settings file (FileZilla.xml)?
So saving the XML files from %PROGRAMDATA%\filezilla-server and copy them back to that location is the preferred way to get the server running again, when having to reinstall?
Re: Location of the settings file (FileZilla.xml)?
Until now that is the only way. Make sure the NTFS permissions are set correctly so that only the server service (and maybe administrators) have access to the directory and the files within.
Re: Location of the settings file (FileZilla.xml)?
So, there are plans to add an export / import feature, for the settings files, in the future?
Re: Location of the settings file (FileZilla.xml)?
The export and import of settings through the UI will be available in the next release, but you can already try it by installing the most recent nightly build.

Re: Location of the settings file (FileZilla.xml)?
hi!
I'm using filezilla server 1.6.1 on my new server and I'd like to import the old users...
I have located the old settings file in C:\Program Files (x86)\FileZilla Server in "FileZilla Server.xml" and a password is written like this there (FileZilla Server 0.9.60 beta):
<Option Name="Pass">70363E2BE11D1CC6A067EC5377A702ECD7A1DF39F9A2022222E6C3B7F46D6EF7EC4855C0F9DE790B6E24BCBF7C4E78374339F26A3B6D5E02E8E8D8D541D03578</Option>
<Option Name="Salt">J)[@N`;0N,n5<{sA=0%`!w12nC0Gpo[>C8Icg\h[,>j?DdMg>|>rR;B&!{g]rocQ</Option>
I have located the new settings file in C:\ProgramData\filezilla-server in "users.xml" (FileZilla Server 1.6.1):
<password index="1">
<hash>sqVjtntPXgxCsJrIQwnUZmNFmsqY36EcxRA8wmg6ARA</hash>
<salt>q1uhNaa8hOU25DgaU+Q9oySXTDvchOVaLUJFZEDgBrA</salt>
<iterations>100000</iterations>
</password>
<methods>1</methods>
how on earth am I supposed to be able to transfer over the old users if I don't know the actual passwords?

Re: Location of the settings file (FileZilla.xml)?
Install the new version over the old. If they are on different machines, install the new version on both, then use the export and import functionality.

installing 1.6.1 on the old server which had 0.9.60 beta doesn't seem to be able to convert the settings:

"FileZilla Server 1.6.1 Setup"
There was an error while executing service filezilla-server-config-converter. Win32 code: 1067 Service code: 0

Re: Location of the settings file (FileZilla.xml)?
doesn't seem I can edit my last post, but anyways... I was given access to my old email address where I had mailed out the password to the user. So now I have all the passwords and can re-input them back into the new filezilla server.
so for me, this isn't an issue any longer. but for someone else maybe it is (probably not)

Re: Location of the settings file (FileZilla.xml)?
We've tried to reproduce the issue with the configuration converter, but to us it didn't happen. It might depend on specific info you have in your own configuration file. If you were willing to share it with us, we could find the root cause of the issue.

Re: Location of the settings file (FileZilla.xml)?
I just updated FileZilla Server from a very old version 0.x (x86) to the latest one (x64) and faced the same problem as mentioned here by Elrinth (automatic conversion failed). Unfortunately I don't have the user passwords anymore and I am not able to migrate the old users from "FileZilla Server.xml" to "users.xml". If I copy-paste a user from the old xml to the new one it doesn't appear in the GUI (service has been stoped and restarted). Any ideas how to migrate the old users at this state?
